AURORA, CO - Attorneys for the suspected shooter in the Aurora, Colorado movie massacre say their client is now willing to plead guilty and serve life in prison in order to avoid the death penalty.
James Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 70 others when he opened fire at the midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises".
Prosecutors have not yet signaled whether they will accept the deal.
But the offer comes just days before they were expected to announce whether they would seek the death penalty.
Should prosecutors accept the deal, it means this case could end much sooner than expected.
But defense attorneys say they are still exploring an insanity defense, should prosecutors turn down the deal and move forward with the trial.
