Woman rescued after car goes into canal in Charlotte County

CREATED Mar. 27, 2013

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A woman is recovering after being rescued when her car plunged into a canal in Port Charlotte.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office says a driver rear ended the car with the woman in it near US 41 and Conway Blvd.  A passerby went to check on her, and she became startled.

That's when investigators say she hit the gas, sending her and the man into the canal.

The man pulled the woman from the car as it was sinking in the water.  The woman's current condition has not been released.

Fox 4 talked with the man who helped pull the woman to safety.  You'll hear his story tonight on Fox 4 News at 10.
