CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The invasion Lionfish is getting some special attention from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
The FWC is asking the public to join its Lionfish Control Team for the month of April.
Anglers are being encouraged to take the nonnative, invasive species which has infiltrated state waters including those off the Southwest Florida coast.
Lionfish prey on native species and compete for food important to species like grouper and snapper.
FWC is asking everyone to take part in a Lionfish Twitter chat from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.. You can sign in to Twitter and follow @MyFWClife or #FWCLionfish.
During the chat the FWC will unveil its "Lionfish Control Team" photo contest.
