PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A Port Charlotte man is accused of dumping more than 2,300 feet of freshly chopped mulch along Devereaux Avenue last Friday.
A Charlotte County deputy arrested Rex Eugene Bolin, 52, on Monday for felony littering over 500 pound/commercial.
The CCSO deputy and Charlotte County Code Enforcement Officer located the piles of mulch after a witness who was riding her bicycle said she saw a black Ford F-150 pickup pulling a trailer loaded with mulch near her home.
She watched the pickup go toward Devereaux Avenue and shortly after, she saw the mulch pile dumped in the road. The witness followed a trail of mulch in the street that led her to Bolin’s home where the same pickup and empty trailer was parked; she notified CCSO.
The deputy went to the home and saw the pickup and trailer, and a commercial size chipper on the lot being cleared. Bolin told the deputy he rented the chipper and hired three people to clear the lot. He said he wanted to minimize the time between legal dumping to speed up the job. He was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail; bond was set at $2,500.
