MARCO ISLAND, Fla. - The U.S. Coast Guard working with the Collier County Sheriff's Office rescued two people from a 37 foot sail boat caught in heavy seas 13 miles southwest of Marco Island Monday.
CCSO contacted the Coast Guard Monday night after rescuing one person from the disabled boat.
The Coast Guard launched a team from Fort Myers Beach and they rescued the second person.
The Coast Guard then towed the to the Marco Island Marina.
"It is imperative boaters check the weather before taking to the seas," said Lt. Mark Upson, a search and rescue watchstander at the sector. "Weather can be very unpredictable, so checking weather conditions can help boaters stay safe on the water."
