2nd arrest for man at the center of Bigelow traffic stop

CREATED Mar. 22, 2013

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The man behind the wheel of a traffic stop involving then Lee County Commissioner Brian Bigelow is facing new legal trouble.

David Alexander Henley has been arrested and charged in a Fort Myers burglary.

Henley was behind the wheel of a rental car when a Lee County deputy stopped him and Bigelow  near Tice Street and Iona Avenue on November 7, 2012.

Henley was charged at the time with possession of cocaine and marijuana.

Ironically on Wednesday, former Commissioner Bigelow entered a plea deal for allowing Henley to drive the rental car without a license.  Bigelow, who faces drug charges now of his own, paid a $300 fine and court costs.

Henley's latest legal problems stems from a reported home break-in on October 11, 2012.  Someone broke into a home in the 1400 block of Hill Avenue.  Someone broke a glass door of the residence and escaped when one of the son of the homeowner came to check on the noise.

Fort Myers detectives linked Henley back to the burglary through fingerprints taken during his arrest for the November traffic stop.

Henley was arrested Thursday.
