CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Fans of super-sized sugary soft drinks can drink up. A judge has ruled consumers can buy whatever size soda they want in the big apple a day before the rule was set to kick in.
New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg still stands behind his idea of a 16 oz. size limit for soda and sugary soft drinks and plans to appeal the judge's decision in an effort to curb obesity.
"If we are serious about fighting obesity, we have to be honest about what causes it and we have to have the courage to tackle it head on," said Mayor Bloomberg.
Many in Southwest Florida claimed victory on the judge's decision on Fox Four's Facebook page.
Barbara posted, "Government needs to stick to politics. We should have the right to do what we want. It's our life. Good or bad."
Bill wrote, "It should be up to the parents, not politicians."
Katie questioned, "Why do we need people telling us what we should or should not be drinking? What happen to our rights?"
On the other side, Jeannette said, "I think it's great because some parents don't know enough to limit their drinks."
Jhuler thought everyone is missing the point, writing in part, "You give me a smaller soda, I'll drink it and I'll be happier because I want to be healthier but when the temptation is there it's harder to eat healthier or to drink less."
Karen posted, "What difference does it make? they can just go and get a refill."
