CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Many viewers are questioning Cypress Lake High School after a student is suspended for wrestling a gun away from another student.
The Cypress Lake High School student who Fox Four is not identifying was suspended for three days after he says he tackled the other student and wrestled a loaded gun away from him on a school bus last week.
"I think he was really going to shoot him right then and there. Not taking no pity. No doubt he was going to shoot him point blank", said the student.
According to the referral he was suspended for "being part of an incident where a weapon was present and given an emergency suspension."
The school district told Fox Four in a statement, "If there is a potentially dangerous situation, Florida law allows the principal to suspend a student immediately pending a hearing."
A lot of you responded saying a suspension is not fair.
Gail, an out of town High School teacher called in and said the school went too far. "The school district treated him incredibly unfairly. He is missing out on his education when he was heroic and I think they should be reprimanded", said Gail.
Another caller said she's disappointed in the way the school responded.
"It's a shame that the good ones have to suffer for the bad", she said.
"Where is their logic? Where is their common sense when you're punishing the hero?", added Betty.
Paul from Port Charlotte saying the school had to do what it did.
"The school system has every right to suspend them just in case. They have to get the documentation and make sure they sort out everything so yeah, I think they did the right thing."
Barbara added to that and posted on our Facebook page, "They have to do that until all are questioned for the protection of all."
