Del Prado motorcycle crash turns fatal

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A fiery crash in the 300 block of Del Prado Boulevard North Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a 40-year-old Fort Myers man.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. and involved a Ford Expedition and a Triumph motorcycle. The biker, Alvin Lee Fails later died from his injuries at Lee Memorial Hospital.
Cape Coral police say 32-year-old Mirza Navarro of Cape Coral was driving south of Del Prado approaching the intersection of NE 3rd Terrace. Fails was riding his motorcycle north on Del Prado in the outside lane when Navarro turned into the path of the motorcycle.
The impact of the motorcycle ruptured the gas tank of the SUV causing both vehicles to catch fire. Fails was ejected from his motorcycle falling to the roadway.
Fails was wearing a helmet. Neither Navarro nor her passenger were hurt.
Cape Coral police are conducting a traffic homicide investigation. Police say they found no evidence of drugs or alcohol playing a role in the crash. Fails death was the city's 8th traffic fatality of the year.
