FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lee County Commissioner voted to move forward with a proposal giving an extra $50,000 in homestead exemptions to certain homeowners.
In order to qualify for the proposed exemption homeowners would have to be at least age 65, have lived in the home at least 25 years and the home's value cannot exceed $250,000.
Approving the changes would cost the county $573,000 in property taxes a year.
