FORT MYERS, Fla. - Hundreds of people got together Saturday to celebrate youth and hear the Rev. Al Sharpton speak at the 'James Brunson Youth Development Foundation' second annual scholarship awards banquet.

There is much to be celebrated, as the community comes together to honor each others outstanding achievements and reflect on what we can do better.

The foundation provides scholarships to deserving youth. Fox 4 was a proud sponsor of the event.

Rev. Dr. Israel Suarez with the Nations Association gave the prayer before the ceremonies started. He says as a community, we need to start at home. and work on strengthening our families.

"Let me put it this way, the first education is home," he said.

Lee Pitts from 'Lee Pitts Live' and our own Fox 4 Rising anchor Miriam Zamaramo co-hosted the event.

Lots of buzz, as people prepared to hear the guest of honor Rev. Al Sharpton give the night's keynote address.

Throughout the night, dozens of people were recognized for their outstanding achievements and many people received awards.

The crowd also heard inspiring stories from scholarship recipients. One woman told the crowd the famous 'I have a dream speech.'

Rev. Sharpton took to the stage, and inspired the crowd, on strengthening our youth and building a better community together.
