Collier Co. Sheriff's Office arrests 2 suspects involved in brutal home invasions
NAPLES, Fla.- Collier County Sheriff's Office arrested 2 suspects they believe were involved in several violent home invasions in Naples.
Among the victims, a 78-year-old man who was tied up, hit over the head as criminals stole cash, his car and jewelry.
Corine Hollowell remembers when squad cars and crime scene units blocked off her neighborhood back in December.
"I attempted to come home and I couldn't. I had to park across the street when I saw where the action was going on...immediately devastated," said Hollowell.
On Dec. 12th, investigators responded to a call on Viking Way in Naples after a violent home invasion. Now nearly 2 months later, the Sheriff's Office has arrested 23-year-old Nicholas Chandler. According to reports, Chandler and another suspects broke in armed with a semi automatic and terrorized a 78-year-old man living inside. The suspects placed a pillowcase over his head, bound his wrists and ankles and then the men stole jewelry, cash and a car.
"The home was ransacked, pulled all the drawers out, beds upside down, they basically destroyed the property in this case poured gasoline over parts of the house," said Detective Wade Williams.
Neighbors finally learned what happened at the home back in December.
"It's crazy. People just go bust into people's houses and take their stuff, glad a couple of them got caught," said Gene Martin.
Investigators also link Chandler to another home invasion at an apartment on Pompei Lane and the Sheriff's Office also arrested Carlos Darren Walker for a brutal robbery at a home on 11th Street Southwest in the Estates.
Fox reached out to all of the victims involved in these robberies, but was unsuccessful getting anyone to go on camera, but the Sheriff's Office says all the victims were targets.
"Part of the motive, we believe, was to intimidate some people that were connected to the victims and also potentially to drug activity," said Williams.
The Sheriff's Office believes at least 2 more suspects were involved in these home invasions.
