FORT MYERS, Fla. - One driver wants to warn you about what he calls a problem with the U-turn sign at an intersection in Fort Myers.
"I shouldn't be getting a ticket if i didn't see the sign," said North Fort Myers resident John Miceli.
He recently traveled down Colonial near I-75 looking for a spot to turn around.
"Every U-turn sign was followed by the place you are not supposed to make a U-turn," said Maceli.
But when he got to the intersection of Colonial and Forum, the no U-turn sign was on the other side of the wide intersection
"You can see the U-turn sign here in the daytime but at night unless your lights illuminate it, you don't see it.
Miceli says the sign hides behind the lights of the turn arrows, and there needs to be a sign in the median before the intersection.
"They should put a sign right there where you can see it," he said. "That would be the number one thing if they really want to make sure people are being safe."
Reporter Kelli Stegeman took his concerns to the Lee County Department of Transportation. A spokesman told her he will drive by that intersection this week to check it out and if a new sign needs to be installed he will recommend that to the state. She also reached out to the Fort Myers Police Department. Chief Doug Baker said Miceli needs to either pay the ticket or go to court. That is a solution Miceli isn't happy about.
