Neighbors react to death investigation in Bonita Springs

CREATED Jan. 19, 2013 - UPDATED: Jan. 20, 2013

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - Investigators from the Lee County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit are looking into a death in Bonita Springs.

Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call just 8:00 a.m. in the 27000 block of Oakland Drive.  There deputies found a dead body and the scene was immediately secured.

Due to the nature of the incident a death investigation began.  The Lee County Sheriff's Office says it appears at this time there is no reason to suspect the neighborhood is in any danger.

Four In Your Corner's Colleen Hogan talked to neighbors who live near the crime scene.

"I see a lot of kids running around here- was it a shock to hear that the body was found right there?" Hogan asked neighbor Orlando Cardenas.

"I know, it's amazing," he said. "I don't know what's happening."

Other neighbors weren't concerned. Two men worked on landscaping work right across the street from the crime scene. Several children played outside as a deputy stood guard.

Even though the sheriff's office said there's no reason for anyone to be concerned, Cardenas says he'll be keeping a closer eye on the kids tonight.
