Burglars target Sanibel
FOX 4 Staff
SANIBEL, Fla. - Sanibel is dealing with a crime wave targeting beach front properties. In the last two months thieves have hit 15 beach properties stealing thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry.
The crimes have prompted the Sanibel Police Department to offer $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible. The extra reward money is on top of the cash Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers would offer for one or more arrests in the continuing crimes.
The burglaries started to occur around Thanksgiving and steadily repeated through last Friday. Most of the crimes taken place during the late afternoon and early evening hours. Every home was located in a small portion of the city, between the 500 block of East Gulf Drive to the 3400 block of West Gulf Drive.
Unfortunately the home owners made the thief's job easy by leaving doors unlocked.
Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
