Naples police officer arrested for DUI, resisting with violence

NAPLES - Collier County deputies arrested a Naples police officer early Sunday morning for DUI and resisting an officer with violence.

Michael Little, 32, was pulled over for speeding shortly after 2 a.m. in the area of Bayshore Drive.

"The whole incident bothers me. It's unfortunate... It's out of character for this officer," said Naples Police Chief Tom Weschler.

According to the incident report, Little told the deputy who stopped him that he was on his way to see his girlfriend at the Abaco Bay apartments and admitted to having several weapons in his car.

"He was speeding...the officer stopped him and noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath."

While the deputy called for backup Little left his car and made a dash for what was believed to be his girlfriend's apartment.

The deputy ordered Little to stop and when she caught up to him they got into a struggle.

The deputy said during the struggle Little tried to reach into his coat pocket.

Once she had him subdued him, they found a Beretta .25 pistol in his coat pocket.

"It's unfortunate that one of our officers is involved in this type of situation when it's something that we work very hard at combating on a daily basis," said Weschler.

Little has been placed on administrative leave pending the state attorney’s office investigation into the matter.
