More than 500 wait in line for H&M grand opening in Naples

CREATED Nov. 15, 2012

NAPLES, Fla.- Hours before global fashion retailer H&M opened in Naples on Thursday at noon, the line was already wrapped around the store.

"What time did you get in line?" I asked one customer.

"7:30am," replied the shopper.

The first 200 shoppers lined up and got a free t-shirt and a fashion pass. Some passes were worth anywhere between $10 to $300.

"My son won $200 so I am very appreciative of that," said Tasheika Bradley, shopper.

Plenty of customers at the Coastland Center were willing to wait it out.

"Did she drag you or did you come willingly?" I asked one customer waiting with his girlfriend.

"I came out for the free shirt. I heard there was a free shirt," he said.

When the doors opened, already 500 people were inside the store. The crowd was so big, the City of Naples Fire officials made sure everything stayed in check. Some customers had to wait outside the store until others came out.

"There's no H&M around anywhere close to us. This is the first one. They have really awesome clothes and not expensive," said one customer.

At H&M you can find ladies', men's, and kid's clothes. Some prices marked as low as $3 to $5 dollars. Some shoppers tell me they use to drive to Miami or St. Petersburg to shop at the store before the Naples location opened on Thursday.
