NAPLES - Residents of a Collier County neighborhood on Hickory Wood Ln. in Naples are concerned about a bear that has been roaming their community for six months.
"I look out my side door and right there outside the door is the big bear butt," said a resident named Scott.
One woman took video of the bear at a school bus stop at the corner of Hickory Wood Ln. and Logan Blvd. on Thursday morning.
"I'm worried about smaller kids at the bus stop."
The bear seems to come out the most on trash days to rummage through unsecured garbage.
People from the neighborhood don't want the bear hurt, but they do want it removed. However, Fox 4 discovered that there is a procedure that must be followed before that is considered as an option.
"The first thing that we want to do is really talk to the resident and see what's attaching those bears to the area," said Carli Segelson, a spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
That's because when they can't get into the trash, they move on to another food source.
Residents who have concerns about a bear in their neighborhood can call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline Number 1-888-404-3922 or visit the link on this page for information on how to resolve the situation.
