Newspaper story leads to arrest of Punta Gorda man
Joshua S. Crider
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A newspaper article about the arrest of a suspected thief led Charlotte County detectives to arrest the same man in connection with another burglary.
The victim read a newspaper article about 31-year-old Joshua Shane Crider who was arrested along with three other men for stealing metal for scrap in early June.
Detectives determined that Crider was involved in a June 16th burglary at a property east of Punta Gorda.
The property owner told investigators someone took 15 lead batteries, a welder on a cart, and a heavy duty battery charger missing. His tenant said a man came on the property and was taking the items. The tenant confronted the man who said the owner gave him permission. The man said his name was “James” and provided his telephone number. The tenant tried unsuccessfully to contact the property owner to verify, so the man left with the items. He later attempted to call “James” but never got a call back.
The property owner said he read a newspaper article about a man involved in stealing items and scrapping them and checked Crider on the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office website.
That led to Crider's re-arrest. He posted a $15,000 bond and was released
