ENGLEWOOD EAST, Fla. - A man arrested for trying to rob the home of a Charlotte County jail inmate faces new charges in connection with a jewelry theft.
39-year-old Donald Robert Costa was arrested earlier this week for trying to steal items from a home in El Jobean. He was also found with drugs and charged with trafficking in Bupreorphine.
Detectives filed new charges against the South Gulf Cove man involving the theft of jewelry from a home in Englewood East.
Costa had lived with a 29-year-old woman and her 49-year-old mother at 9190 Bensonhurst Lane. When he moved out Aug. 22, the mother looked and found her gold jewelry missing. Detectives checked the Pawn Finder system and found that Costa had sold jewelry items for $250 at Charlotte Jewelry & Watch Repair, 1931 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, on Aug. 22, the same day he moved out. The owner positively identified the stolen gold jewelry as hers.
CCSO detectives served the new charges of Grand Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property and Giving False Verification of Ownership to a Pawn Broker on Costa at the Charlotte County Jail where he remains on no bond due to his prior criminal history.
