CAPE CORAL - A brand new $80 million VA facility in Cape Coral will open its doors in less than three months but Fox 4 is getting a sneak peek.
The sleek new state-of-the-art health care center is 220,000 square feet and four times larger than the current Fort Myers location.
The center will provide urgent care, dental services, surgeries and include a women's health center.
Under a new law, the VA will also be adding increased mental health experts to help soldiers battling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.
"There's a need for serving veterans after the scars of battle," said VA official Keith Neeley.
The price-tag for the facility itself is $60 million. An extra $19 million was spent on furniture and equipment.
The Fort Myers VA on Winkler Avenue will close on Dec. 14. The new, larger Cape Coral VA will open on Dec. 17.
"The veterans have served us very proudly," one nurse said. "And we're just here to serve the veterans and make sure they have the excellent care the VA provides."
