FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers accountant Philip Bennett will go to prison for stealing more than $1,000,000.
Three years ago the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested the 61-year-old Bennett following an investigation after allegations arose that Bennett embezzled about $1,031,500 from three Rotary clubs, the city of Moore Haven and campaign of Lee County commission Chairman Frank Mann.
Today a judge sentenced Bennett to 48 months in prison to be followed by 240 months probation.
