CHARLOTTE COUNTY - In August of 2004, Hurricane Charley caused widespread suffering and devastation in Charlotte County.
Friday afternoon, Charlotte County Emergency officials huddled in their command post getting the latest on the storm and putting final preps on how they will deal with mother nature's wrath.
"We are ready," said Wayne Sallade of the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center.
In 2004, entire areas were left barren and devastated. Much of the buildings in downtown Punta Gorda are new and rebuilt. This empty field once called FEMA city housed trailers - homes for residents whose neighborhoods were destroyed.
Many residents in Charlotte County remember all too well the effects of Hurricane Charley and devastation it brought.
Emergency officials say this time around they are not expecting that.
"We will see some gusty winds, high tides but I don't think any catastrophic effects," said Sallade.
