Deputy injured in deadly shooting on I-75 in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. - I-75 shut down for several hours after a deadly shooting. It happened in the northbound lanes near the bayshore road exit in north Lee County.
The deceased has been positively identified as Carlos Joseph Charles of Sarasota.
The northbound lanes of I-75 were closed right near the Bayshore Road exit Thursday evening in North Fort Myers.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office tells FOX4 one person was killed and a deputy was injured while trying to pull over a car full of people.
I-75 northbound not far from the Bayshore exit became an active crime scene late this afternoon. It was completely blocked off from traffic. According to the sheriff's office, a deputy pulled over a vehicle just after 4 pm.
"[The deputy] stopped, made contact with the occupants with the vehicle. At that point it turned violent." Sheriff Mike Scott said.
The sheriff's office not releasing specifics, but the driver of that vehicle was shot and killed.
A deputy also received injuries, however the sheriff's office not saying what those injuries are, but the deputy survived.
"No, just to say that he's injured and was transported to a local hospital." Sheriff Scott said.
Family members of the shooting victim showed up during a press conference, confronting deputies and the sheriff, looking for answers.
“What happened, what happened?”
There were multiple passengers in that stopped vehicle. But the sheriff's office says they are not looking for any suspects and have made no arrests.
"We're not looking for anyone, there is no one at large. We have everyone accounted for." Sheriff Scott said.
