Patriot in pain says VA let him down
LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A veteran in pain says getting relief from the VA feels like an impossible task.
John Tauberman served in the military for 16 years and says he was injured during that time.
"It wasmiltiary related," he says about his back injury.
"Over the years, it progressed to arthritis, and is now sciatic nerve damage," he says.
He says the back pain has caused him to walk with a cane .
He says that's led to bone spur on his foot which is creating pain in his hip.
"It's been one probably after another, says John who says he waited six months for an appointment with a pain specialist at the VA Bay Pines clinic in the St. Pete/Tampa area.
He says a friend drove him two hours from Lee county to the clinic - only to be disappointed.
"They told me the appointment was canceled due the doctor was out sick," says John.
"And they don't have no other doctor to see anybody."
John says it wasn't the first time he's left for the clinc without getting results.
"I have had this appointment before and didn't say anything," says John.
"I got half way up there and they called and canceled it on me."
