Southwest Florida seniors get a chance at reality show stardom
NAPLES, Fla. - A reality show is coming to Southwest Florida. The show called "Senior Prom" will showcase 6 Naples residents. Modern Features Entertainment along with Karemar Productions, Inc. will produce a competition reality show for television.
80-year-old Dan Spensieri is no wallflower. He's got rhythm and soul out on the dance floor. It's something he learned in junior high. "In junior high, Mr. Block taught us how to do the rumba and foxtrot. He said, you guys are going to high school next year and I want to teach you to dance so you won't be wallflowers," said Spensieri.
Dan's been dancing ever since and his years of practice landed him as a serious contender for a reality show called "Senior Prom." He's one of 25 Naples residents who have made it to the final casting. "I never went to the senior prom in high school or college so I figure I'd go for it," said Spensieri.
25 will be narrowed down to 6 and the remaining dancers will be showcased as they learn from professionals including Broadway stars and Hollywood Legend, Debbie Reynolds, the show's host. "We're doing it as a way to showcase Naples as a vibrant community. Right now, there's a perception out there this is where people come to retire, but it's not," said Karen Danni, producer.
The show will be taped in Naples and on location starting next month. Contestants will train and be mentored a long the way. It is all leading up to the finale where Reynolds will crown a king and queen at the Senior Prom. "She(Reynolds) is going to mentor all our dance couples. We'll be traveling to California to see her and work with her in her studio," said Danni.
These dancers hope their moves land them at the top. The show is expected to air in January. Specific details surrounding a specific air date have not been released yet. Fox 4 will keep you posted.
