School Food Fight Graduation Ban

CREATED May. 8, 2012 - UPDATED: May. 8, 2012

FORT MYERS - Vicky Pugh was looking forward to her son's 8th grade graduation ceremony scheduled for next Friday at the James Stephens International Academy in Fort Myers.

"Yesterday my son brougth home a letter stating the graduation has been cancelled,' said Pugh.

The principal said in the letter she cancelled the graduation because of "unforseen circumstances".  What she was really talking about according to the school district, was a food fight late last week involving just about all of the 8th grade class that got way out of control.

"She shouldn't have to punish the good kids for it," said Pugh.

Vicky said other parents and students are just as upset.

"Many parents are going to the school or making phone calls to ask questions," said Pugh.

We put a call into the school and they said the principal had no choice but cancel graduation because after the food fight the cafeteria was mess and students were running through the hallways yelling.

The district said they will be glad to reinstate graduation but only if the students who started the food fight  are identified.
