Complaints against a home being used as a weekly vacation rental
NAPLES- A North Naples neighborhood is dealing with some noisy neighbors.
Homeowners complain some homes in the area are being used as weekly vacation rentals and they want to know if anything can be done to stop it.
Penny Froh takes Fox 4 around her neighborhood just off Immokalee Road in Naples. She's enjoying the quiet before things get rowdy again.
"I think our community is changing. I'm just trying to do something about it."
She says a 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom house right across the street is rented out by the day or week. The AD online calls this home in Penny's Palm River Estates neighborhood "The Get Together Home." The home can be used by large families or for weddings and retreats between
the months of June-Dec. The AD also shows weekly rates are negotiable or a one night state will cost you $550.
"The monthly rentals, I think, all of us would understand, but the weekly and daily rentals is just insane."
On Monday, the home appears empty, but Penny says she checked online and the home is being rented out again on Friday. She says that's when things are expected to get noisy again.
"9:00, 10:00 at night and there are kids screaming in the pool and parents are above on the deck.
It's very noisy. Kids playing basketball 2:00, 3:00 in the morning. It's just a party house."
Now Penny and other neighbors want to know when is the party going to stop! I took concerns to the county. Code enforcement says short term rentals are not allowed in this neighborhood. The county is now working to contact the property owners to get them to stop.
"You're catching this on a quite day. There's usually cars parked in the grass and noise all night long."
Fox 4 reached out to the lady who rents the home out. She says she had no clue these short term rentals are not allowed in the neighborhood. She says she has not heard from Code Enforcement yet, but is going to call them. She says she is willing to comply.
Code Enforcement also had other complaints against this house for noise issues and too many cars in the driveway. Fox 4 will follow up to find out when the county will bring this house into compliance.
