Shawne Boardman: "That's my baby, somebody that murdered my girl."
Bailey was a 12-year old West Highland Terrier; AKC registered, feisty and full of life. Her only known enemy was the vacuum cleaner.
Daniel Gilliam: "I miss a lot of that stuff."
Now Bailey's toys mark the spot where her owners buried her broken body.
Shawne Boardman: "That was her favorite toy, that was her favorite ball and that was her favorite shoe.
Mike Mason: "That's heart breaking.”
Shawne Boardman: "Yeah, really heart breaking, my girl."
Shawne Boardman and her boyfriend adopted Bailey three years ago after her previous owner died. Last Friday, tragedy struck when Bailey slipped away from her leash and disappeared for a few hours. When she hobbled back home it became clear someone had beaten and tortured her.
Shawne Boardman: "She was filthy and when I went to give her a bath I picked her up and she screamed."
Bailey's owners say her ribs were broken and her jaws glued completely shut
Daniel Gilliam: "I pried her mouth open and she looked at me like, "Dad, sorry" and then she died right there."
This case is now being investigated by the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Animal Services. They hope someone will provide information leading to the arrest of Bailey's killer.
Daniel Gilliam: "I don't give a dad gum one way or the other, you killed my dog."
Shawne Boardman: "I just hope they find this person."
Daniel Gilliam: "I don't like talking about it. It hurt me so bad."
Concerned residents have already donated nearly $2500 dollars in reward money to whoever provides information leading to an arrest. If you know anything about this case call Crime Stoppers, the number is 1-800-780-TIPS.
