Cape City Manager salary offer released to Fox 4
CAPE CORAL - For days, the city of Cape Coral has been in salary negotiations with Troy, Michigan city manager John Szerlag after he was picked to replace Gary King who was fired in December. Cape Councilwoman Rana Erbrick helped negotiate the deal.
"It's an offer he would accept if it was extended," said Erbrick.
But Fox 4 has confirmed that Szerlag has been offered a base salary of 160,000 per year with another 18,000 in allowances for car, medical, and housing. Combine that with a pension the total package offered would be 197,000 per year.
How does that 197,000 figure compare to what other Cape City managers made? Take a look for yourself, King made a total of 186,000 per year. Terry Stewart made 213,000 per year.
"We have a good candidate,' said Erbrick.
Szerlag would receive a 20 week severance package if he is asked to leave, otherwise known as a golden parachute. The search firm hired to find a city manager replacement negotiated with the city on Szerlag's behalf.
