Welfare used at strip clubs? Government puts program under microscope
A government benefit program allowing those on welfare to use taxpayer money at strip clubs and to buy liquor Is now under the microscope.
The program in question is called temporary assistance for needy families, and it gives cash assistance to poor working families, through the use of an EBT card.
But federal lawmakers are discovering that those cards are being accessed at strip clubs and casinos to by everything from lap dances to liquor.
The house has now passed a bill that requires states to ban the ability to access government benefits for those purposes. The senate is has not yet voted on the bill.
