Walker fights back against firing

CREATED Jan. 25, 2012

FORT MYERS - Fired Edison president Dr. Ken Walker is fighting back, telling Fox 4 the college's investigation against him was "riddled" with errors.

"I have discussed the report with my legal counsel and we are in agreement that this is neither the time nor the place to lay out our entire case," Walker said. "So I will simply say that the report is riddled with inaccuracies and I am confidently looking forward to the opportunity to prove it."

Walker is referring to a 25-page report, which includes hundreds of pages of supplemental materials, that the law firm Fowler-White released over the weekend.

The report makes the case that Walker can be fired "with cause" due to a "failure of leadership" stemming from numerous scandals over the past year.

Walker told Fox 4 Thursdasy he has "no additional statement" until his "complete response" is released. He did not offer a timeframe.

Fox 4 reached out to Walker's law firm, Greenberg Traruig LLP but they declined to comment.

On Wednesday we stopped by Walker's gated community to get his side of the story.

"I can't allow you in," a security guard said.

"Can you pass on our phone number or our information?," Fox 4 reporter Matt Grant asked.

"No sir I cannot do that," the security guard responded.

In response to Walker's comments, the college issued a statement saying: "The report speaks for itself."

Former Edison VP Bob Beeson agrees. He was fired after speaking out about racial discrimination at the college and read the report calling it thorough and accurate.

"Are there any inaccuracies that you can see?," asked Grant.

"From what I experienced no," said Beeson. "I couldn't tell that there were."

Beeson was at Tuesday's board meeting, along with another fired VP Steve Atkins, to watch the vote.

He says he's not sure what "inaccuracies" Walker is talking about.

"Given the fact that he was given the opportunity to rebut at a pre-termination hearing and refused to," said Beeson, "I really don't know what he's referring to."
