FORT MYERS - Edison State College is moving ahead with its search for a new president. But even the search is getting sticky.
The college is still reeling from a series of scandals uncovered by Fox 4 that culminated with president Ken Walker being put on leave.
The board of trustee's sub-committee, made up of five members, met Friday to pick a professional firm to handle the search for a new president.
Nine search firms submitted proposals (See "Related Documents").
But committee member and Edison trustee Pamella Seay says she thinks the committee is skipping a step.
She says they should first talk about what kind of president they want before hiring the search firm.
"Quite frankly," said Seay, "I want to know where we're going. I'd like to know what road we need to be on. And from there we need to decide what is the philosophy of this college?"
The search for a new president comes with a price tag. One of the potential search firms would charge $80,000. Others would charge a "percentage" of the new president's salary package, which could be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The search committee will meet Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. to narrow the field of search firms.
