Chilmonik to run for school board seat
CAPE CORAL - Outspoken former Lee County school board member Bob Chilmonik will officially announce another run for school board Wednesday, Fox 4 has learned.
"I believe that with recent changes in the makeup of the board I now have a far greater chance to implement many of the improvements that I suggested," Chilmonik writes in a news release, "when I served on the board in the past."
Chilmonik spent eight years and two terms on the board fighting for shorter bus rides and an end to school choice.
The former board member will run against board vice chair Jeanne Dozier, who spent 12 years on the board.
In the news release (see "related documents"), Chilmonik says he wants to "improve academics, return to neighborhood schools, improve teachers' working conditions, reject any new tax increases and eliminate nonessential administrative costs."
The election will be held later this year.
