Why aren't hotel employees being paid?
FORT MYERS - The reason employees at the MainStay Suites in Fort Myers haven't been paid is because the company that owns them filed for bankruptcy, according to published reports.
After more than a month of trying to get answers, we now know the Roberts Companies, based out of St. Louis, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in October. The company reportedly owes more than $4 million.
The employees at MainStay in Fort Myers aren't the only ones who aren't being paid. Employees at other hotels owned by the group are also not getting their paychecks on time, according to employees at other hotels and published reports in Missouri.
Fox 4 reached out to the company's attorney. A recording said they weren't in because of the holiday weekend.
