Salvation Army sees hundreds for Christmas toy sign-up
NAPLES - The Salvation Army is slammed with Collier County families needing holiday help!
For Roslyn Gedeon the toy store isn't an option this holiday season.
"Without this I just, I don't how I would have done it. I probably would have to go to
like the Dollar Tree and get toys."
Hundreds waited outside the Salvation Army in Naples on Monday to sign up for free Christmas toys. These are gifts these parents wouldn't be able to afford on their own.
"All of them ran, but if you turn around there's a line of people. I'm not ashamed because
Salvation Army helped me."
Some parents got in line at 2am this morning for the chance to register. Getting on the Salvation Army's list means 2 toys per child plus food for the holiday.
"It's been very busy. We expected to have a line, but we didn't expect to have such a huge
line. Every year we see a difference, we see the number increasing," said Maria Ramos, The Salvation Army.
For Martha Serrano this is the 2nd time she's needed holiday help. She registered on Monday and so did about 300 others. The Salvation Army expects to get about 1,700 applications this year from those in Naples and Immokalee. That is about 200 more people than last year.
"It means hope. It means hope for them to have Christmas toys for their children.
Some families are unemployed right now they have the hope the Salvation Army will help them," said Ramos.
