Dash cam catches police officer saving woman's life during traffic stop

Kalamazoo, Michigan, police officer Jason Gates recently saved a woman's life during a traffic stop for a red light violation.

When Officer Gates approached the unidentified woman's car on Aug. 9 around 11:20 a.m., at first he thought that she was fake choking to avoid a violation.

"Dash cam video from the incident shows Officer Gates asking the woman if she was okay, and when he realizes she’s in trouble, he administers a couple of back blows," reports FOX 17 West Michigan. "When that doesn’t work, you can see Gates quickly pull the woman from the car and administer the Heimlich maneuver." The woman was reportedly choking on a hot dog.

In the next moments, you can see the grateful woman hugging the officer.

Officer Gates had never used the Heimlich maneuver before in his nine years of police work. However, he now says, “I’m just glad that I was there and it worked,” further reports FOX 17.

The woman was not given a ticket.
