Several motorists are being praised for saving a 6-year-old's life after he drove his battery-operated toy ATV onto a New York highway on Sunday.

The unidentified young boy drove away from his grandmother while playing in a Mount Vernon park, exited through the park's entrance solo around 7 p.m. ET.

"The youngster, who [Westchester County] police said is autistic, then drove onto an entrance ramp at Oak Street and began pulling his toy onto the Bronx River Parkway," reports the New York Post.

“He definitely had some guardian angels out there,” police spokesman Kieran O’Leary tells the New York Post. “It could have been a tragedy — but it had a happy ending.”

Motorists who spotted the toy car on the highway surrounded the young boy o "shield the youngster from other vehicles," further reports the New York Post. One man exited his own vehicle to rush the child to safety.
