Daft Punk and Lorde were 2014 Grammy champions with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis spotlighted in between.

The French electronic duo-"robots" Daft Punk won five trophies including Album of the Year for "Random Access Memories" and Record of The Year for "Get Lucky," while 17-year-old Lorde earned Song of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Royals."

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis took home Best New Artist and three rap awards. But their best moment of the night was performing "One Love" with Mary Lambert alongside 33 couples -- same sex and straight, as Queen Latifah officiated the on-air weddings while Madonna rebirthed her 1986 hit "Open Your Heart" during their ring exchange. Keith Urban was caught crying in the audience, as Katy Perry caught a participating bride's bouquet.

"The most touching moment of the night occurred when the robots of the hour paid tribute to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. In the final speech of the night, songwriter Paul Williams delivered Daft Punk's words of praise, which summed up all of the warm and fuzzy collaborations of the evening," reported Rolling Stone. "'What they wanted me to say is that as elegant and as classy as the Grammys has ever been was the moment when we saw those wonderful marriages, and 'Same Love' is fantastic,' he said. 'It was the height of fairness and love and the power of love for all people at any time in any combination. . .  [Daft Punk] sail on a ship called generosity. They are generous in spirit.'"

And hard to forget, the legendary onstage reunions. Despite prior reports, Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr did in fact reunite to perform McCartney's "Queenie Eye" together, as Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, the only son of Ono and John Lennon, danced as spectators in celebration of the Beatles Lifetime Achievement Award. Likewise, two of the original Highwaymen: Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, joined forces with country-men Merle Haggard and Blake Shelton, and later Miranda Lambert teamed up with Greem Day's Billie Joe Armstrong in tribute to the late Phil Everly of The Everly Brothers.
