Wells Hall Addition Grand Opening Ceremony

On the afternoon of September 7, 2012, MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon, Provost Kim Wilcox, and Dean of the College of Arts and Letters Karin Wurst were on hand to participate in the grand opening of the new addition to Wells Hall.

The 88,000 gross square feet of space in the middle of campus serves at the university's language education hub, housing several departments - most of which come from the College of Arts and Letters. Religious Studies and African American Studies also relocated to Wells Hall.

“The new Wells Hall addition is another piece of MSU’s commitment to a cutting-edge global focus,” President Simon said. “Understanding of world languages and cultures is a prerequisite to the ability to be successfully engaged in business, government, diplomacy, research and the arts in the 21st century.”

The space is home to some special features, including a "green" roof of vegetation, bamboo walls, light-activated shades in the three-floor atrium space, and several study areas and meeting spaces for students and faculty.
