Whether they've seen it on the sidewalk, on a trash can, or even in a video, students across Michigan State's campus are asking who's behind 'WTF MSU' written in chalk and paint on several sidewalks and what does it mean?
"I've heard mixed messages," said Keven Sircher, a junior. "Maybe some natural disaster with FEMA, or some CIA deal."
Freshman Megan Zoelling adds, "One of the things I've heard is that it's a terrorist group, which I'm not really sure [about]."
It started about two days ago, when 'WTF MSU was spray painted on the rock near the Auditorium, overnight. Friday morning, it was written in chalk and painted on sidewalks all over MSU's campus, along with phrases like 'something's coming' and referencing the date, October 1.
"It's probably a not-very-positive thing about Michigan State," said Colleen Anthes. "It's probably something that people don't like about Michigan State, but it doesn't really represent us well."
That wasn't the only negative attention it's gotten. MSU Police posted about the markings on its Facebook page, claiming multiple cases of destruction of property.
As it turns out, the group behind the messages is the student government organization, ASMSU. Both the university and ASMSU released statements, Friday, stating 'WTF' stands for 'What to Fix' and is a campaign to improve services on campus.
The statements add ASMSU agreed to cover any clean-up costs that come with paint removal. Stay with FOX 47 as we continue to cover this story.
