EAST LANSING, Mich. – The MSU Professors of Jazz invite the community to celebrate the holidays with jazzy renditions of their favorite Christmas and holiday tunes in “A Jazzy Little Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 14, 8 p.m. at the newly renovated Fairchild Theatre.

Part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Showcase Series, the swinging jazz concert will spread Christmas greetings and cheer. “A Jazzy Little Christmas” offers a renewed and vivacious spin on traditional Christmas tunes for jazz lovers.

“We are spicing up the holidays this season,” said Rodney Whitaker, acclaimed jazz bassist and director of jazz studies at MSU College of Music. “We are putting a jazzy twist to holiday festivities and we hope everyone joins us to celebrate the Christmas spirit!”

MSU Professors of Jazz include Etienne Charles (trumpet), Randy Gelispie (drums), Diego Rivera (tenor saxophone), Reggie Thomas (piano), and Whitaker. Guest jazz vocalists Rockelle Fortin, Betty Joplin, Shahidah Nurullah, Naima Shambourger, Mardra Thomas, and Ursula Walker will join the Professors of Jazz.

Tickets for the concert – $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $10 for students – can be purchased at the College of Music box office, (517) 353-5340, online at music.msu.edu, or at the door.
