Michigan State Ranked No. 3 in Big Ten Tournament

Michigan State Ranked No. 3 in Big Ten Tournament

By Fox47 News. CREATED Mar 11, 2013

The Big Ten regular season is over in basketball, but the Big Ten tournament begins Thursday March 14th.  The excitement behind this year's tournament is at an all-time high as the Big Ten made a strong argument in being the best conference in college basketball this year.

The excitement can be seen in the ticket sales, as it was the first time ever that tickets sold out in advance.  The tournament will take place March 14-17 leading up to selection Sunday.

Indiana won the regular season title outright after they narrowly beat Michigan 72-71.  They will receive the number one seed in the Big Ten Tournament as well as a bye in the first round.

Here in Lansing, all eyes will be on Michigan State as the team looks to win the Big Ten tournament after missing out on the regular season title.  MSU needed Michigan to beat Indiana for a share of the title, but after the Michigan loss, everyone is looking for redemption in the tournament.

Coach Tom Izzo and company are known for their tough play come tournament time, and this year the Big Ten tournament will be good practice for the big dance.  MSU gains the number three seed in the conference tournament and also receives a bye in the first round.  They will play their first game on Friday March 15th against the winner of the Iowa and Northwestern game.

Winning the Big Ten tournament would go a long way in a higher seeding in the NCAA Tournament. Whether MSU will be the Big Ten Tournament Champions or not, they figure to have a favorable seeding when selections are made Sunday evening.  The city of Lansing, the state of Michigan, and the nation as a whole are excited for March Madness.
