Spartan Fans Make Their Homes “Glow Green” for Homecoming 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Now in its second year, Michigan State University’s tradition of “Glowing Green” will continue during the week of October 8–13 for Homecoming 2012. Across the globe, Spartans young and old will replace their porch lights from white to green to celebrate MSU’s Homecoming week.
The MSU Homecoming committee selected “Spartans Will Make History” as this year’s Homecoming theme, which will highlight the history of Michigan State University and those that have contributed to its legacy. MSU Athletics Director Mark Hollis has been named Homecoming Grand Marshal because of his many contributions to the university.
Don’t have a green light bulb? The Homecoming committee has partnered with Consumer’s Energy to provide Spartan fans with green light bulbs. Beginning Monday, October 1, alumni and fans will be able to pick up free green bulbs during normal business hours, while supplies last, at the MSU Alumni Association office, located in room 300 of the Spartan Stadium Tower. Also beginning Monday, October 1, while supplies last, students can pick up free green bulbs with a student I.D. during normal business hours at the Student Alumni Foundation, located in room 333 of the MSU Union.
Spartan fans are encouraged to share a photo of their house, apartment or residence hall room glowing green by submitting a photo in the “Glow Green” Photo Contest. Submitted photos will be added to the MSU Alumni Association website and will be entered into a contest to win one of three great prizes.
This year’s Homecoming week precedes MSU’s football game against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. The week will consist of different activities hosted by University organizations, including the annual Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 12.
The Homecoming committee consists of representatives from the MSU Alumni Association, East Lansing business owners, campus organizations and student leaders.
