MSU, American Red Cross to Hold Annual 'Pet Lover's Blood Drive'

CREATED Sep. 17, 2012

September 17, 2012 – Lansing, MI – The American Red Cross, Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the MSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) are teaming up once again for the 4th annual Pet Lover’s Blood Drive.

“This blood drive was started as a unique way for pet owners to honor and remember their pets andsave human lives at the same time,” said Todd Kulman, Communications Manager for the Great Lakes Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross.  “We’re excited to have the chance to hold this event again this year.”

Since its inception, the Pet Lovers Blood Drive has been a huge success at MSU.  Last year, more than 50 people rolled up their sleeves in memory of their favorite furry friend.  The drive has been so successful that American Red Cross regions around the country have launched similar events in their communities.

“When the American Red Cross approached us three years ago about this event, we immediately jumped on-board,” said MSU VTH Director Dr. Pat LeBlanc.  “What a fantastic way for pet lovers to show compassion for both animals and their fellow human beings.”

All presenting donors at the 2012 Pet Lover’s Blood Drive will receive a goody bag with donated treats for their pets.  Donors will also have the opportunity to learn about the MSU VTH Blood Donor Program and the variety of services provided by the MSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

The 2012 Pet Lover’s Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, September 18, from 12 – 5:45PM in the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine’s 2nd floor cafeteria.  Donors are asked to enter through the Small Animal Clinic entrance.
