Lions Steamroll Patriots in Preseason Game, 40-9
With a score of 40-9, many will celebrate the Detroit Lions' offensive efforts against the New England Patriots at Ford Field Thursday night.
But this morning, focus is all over the Lions' defense, who forced four turnovers in the first half alone and holding them to a field goal until the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Lions piled it on, ending the first half with a 16-3 lead and tacking on three more touchdowns and a field goal to make the score 40-3.
Reggie Bush had only one rushing yard on six carries, but caught five passes for 103 yards in the game. Calvin Johnson didn't play due to an injury.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford connected with his receivers 12 of 25 times for 166 yards and one touchdown. Kellen Moore took over for Stafford, and had 9 for 12 completions and two touchdown passes.
