Why The Tigers Will Win The Division
CREATED Sep. 26, 2012
There are many reasons why the Detroit Tigers could land ahead of the Chicago White Sox come the end of the season. Chicago, who has lost six out of the last seven games, has a tough route to the top of the division. They will be hosting the hot Tampa Bay Rays for a four-game series, followed by a three game tango with the Cleveland Indians.
The Tigers have made up three games in a week on the White Sox, who had been on top of the Central Division since Sept. 3. Detroit has eight games remaining on the year, which shouldn't pose a problem with such a strong pitching staff as of late. The games include five against Kansas City and three against Minnesota.
One of the biggest reasons why the Tigers will win the division comes down to the simple fact that the tigers have a 6 foot 4 inch monster named Miguel Cabrera, who is on his way towards the first Triple Crown in baseball since 1967. “Miggy” has pounded nine long balls in the month of September while hitting a superb .329, and shows no sign of slowing down.
The Tigers pitching staff, as of late, has been very impressive. Anibal Sanchez is coming off his most impressive outing in a Tiger’s uniform. He threw a lengthy nine innings while giving up just three hits, and striking out ten hitters. Justin Verlander also shined in his latest appearance against Kansas City. JV tossed his usual eight frames while striking out eight as well.
All in all, things look good for Leyland’s crew at the moment, and with a strong performance in the upcoming weeks, Detroit could be popping champagne before we know it.
