Specialty contact lenses transform your eyes and change color, but some aren't beautiful at all. In fact, wearing them could lead to a dangerous and costly infection.
What you don't see is the hidden danger when they're illegally sold, whether in costume shops, at the mall, even in salons.
Spooky lenses could mean sickly eyes. Even after a person wears illegally-sold specialty lenses for a night, bacteria can infect the eyes.
The FDA only approves the selling of these special lenses when sold by a doctor, with a prescription. The FDA says anyone who sells even a cosmetic contact lens is breaking the law if they don't ask for your prescription.
Contacts, even cosmetic, aren't one size fits all. No matter what, your eye needs to be measured, which is why this trend concerns doctors. The specialty lenses are also available online by many sellers who aren't authorized.
One company only sells to doctors, but private dealers get their hands on them and then resell the contacts to stores and salons.
