The Capital Area is dealing with significant health problems. In Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties, a little over 30 percent of the population struggles with obesity.
To combat unhealthy habits, the Capital Area Health Alliance is starting a new campaign called "Choosing Health."
It's designed to help people in Lansing learn about existing programs to achieve healthy lifestyle goals. Sunday it held the second of two rallies.
"In this community, we have a lot of obesity, a lot of inactivity, and a lot of children who aren't learning the things they should about healthy lifestyles," says Valerie Glesnes-Anderson, executive director. "So we're trying to raise awareness and get people engaged in activities that will bring them closer to living the way they should."
Local caterers and restaurants gave out free samples of healthy foods, and fitness professionals offered demo classes on ways to stay active.
