Suspect Pointed Rifle At Deputies, Fatally Shot
One man was fatally shot in Lenawee County after allegedly pointing a rifle at county sheriff's deputies.
Michigan State Police, which is investigating the shooting, say deputies were called to a home on Treat Highway in Fairfield Township around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday to enforce a court order for hospitalization.
The subject was a 54-year-old man who was in need of evaluation for mental illness. According to MSP, the family warned that the man was paranoid and delusional. Deputies found the man inside the home. He was armed with a shotgun and ignored orders to set it down. The deputies fired when he pointed the gun at him. He died, though the deputies tried unspecified life-saving measures. The name of the victim is not yet being released.
The deputies are on suspension while the shooting is investigated.
